The three-year TA Customizer Project at NASDSE was funded by the U.S. Department of Education Charter Schools Program in October 2003. It is designed to bring technical assistance to states that will help them transform national training materials related to special education in charter schools into state-specific resources. Two previous efforts directed at NASDSE laid the groundwork for this project—the research findings of Project SEARCH, and the technical assistance resources developed by the SPEDTACS Project. The main material being used in the work of the TA Customizer project is the set of Primers on Special Education in Charter Schools. Copies of these documents can be accessed at the website developed to enhance the use of the Primers. The website (www.uscharterschools.org/specialedprimers) can be used to search the contents of the three Primers using a list of hot topics or sorted by the life stages of a charter school. It also contains additional resources related to this topic such as Power Point presentations for training, a matrix of charter schools characteristics, checklists and an expanded glossary.
