Membership

NASDSE's membership includes the state directors of special education or other persons designated by their state education agency who have specific responsibility for directing, coordinating or supervising programs and services regarding the education of students with disabilities. NASDSE membership includes the 50 States, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Bureau of Indian Affairs, Department of Defense Dependent Schools and the other jurisdictions designated in the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). NASDSE also offers affiliate memberships to all interested persons.

NASDSE is governed by an eight-member, elected board of directors, consisting of the President, President-Elect, Secretary-Treasurer, Past President and four members-at-large. Board members are elected at the annual conference and business meeting.

The Board provides guidance and direction on NASDSE activities in accordance with policy decisions made by the membership at the annual conference and business meeting. With member input, the Board develops position statements on issues of national significance.

Since its inception, NASDSE has been at the forefront of debate and policy development concerning the education of individuals with disabilities.
